I’ve been suffering from this for a while. In Firefox, online flash players (Youtube etc) hangs every few seconds, meaning you miss vital parts of the video.
I’ve discovered a fix that doesn’t seem to be anywhere else:
1) Type about:config into address bar and press Enter.
2) Right click anywhere to bring up a submenu
3) Choose ‘New’ then ‘integer’
4) Paste the following into the dialogue that appears: browser.cache.memory.capacity
5) Click Ok
6) Specify amount in kb (about 80000 should be ok) in the next dialogue that appears
7) Restart Firefox and happy surfing.
Holy shit, that actually worked! Thanks so much, have been looking for a solution for this for ages!
Finally a real fix! Thank you so much!
no more it is my vid cards or cpus fault
Yeah, seriously. I’ve been thinking this was just a permanent issue between Flash/Shockwave and Firefox somehow.
Nice to see someone’s cracked it.
Should be on the FAQ for Youtube or something.
This worked wonders, thanks a lot. I almost started to use chrome just because of this.
This didnt work for me bro!!! I have stuttering going on at GAMETRAILERS.COM with the new flash player and I never had this problem before!!! only with IE but I am using FIREFOX pretty long time now… Can you help me out? please mail me or whatever!
Thanks and PEACE
Thanks for the tip, it worked.
Thanks a lot. I’d tried a few other things, but this is the first fix that seems to do the job. I was getting rather annoyed.
Did this months ago, and it still makes no difference. I’m surprised with the amount of complaints I see about this issue and the above fix still not working that someone hasn’t responded somewhere. I have to watch all my video in IE or Chrome. UGGH!!!
This actually worked. Thanks!
Awesome find. How on earth did you discover this fix?
Thank You!
BTW, I had minor stuttering at 8000 so I upped the integer to 180000 and it seems to work better with 4 Gigs of ram.
If I see the issue again, I’ll try increasing it once more.
So far, so good!
Thx a bunch Bro! Worked like a charm! I was about to get the 12 gauge out for my shiny new Win 7 box… Upped the session save interval to 3 mins and used 80000 as you suggested for cache and it seems to be working good!
Hoo-yah!
I love you.
nice, nice , nice
thank you so much

Hi! I tried this but it didn’t work for me. So I tried to undo it, but turns out that I can’t delete it. So now I’m stuck with browser.cache.memory.capacity, String, 80000, instead of Integer. I can’t seem to switch it back to Integer or delete the whole thing. Will it affect my laptop system? Please help! Thank you!
Awesome…worked for me…thanks champ!
Just one word: THANKS!!!!!!!!!!! I was cursing alternatively Firefox, Shockwave and Microsoft, but this did it. Awesome. Thanks a real lot 🙂
Man…i have searched for this fix for ages….worked for a bit and started to hang at 80000…so i changed the value to 180000….opened youtube, played a video and it immediately froze…changed it to 8000, then 800 and have settled with 0…not sure if this is going to keep youtube going…but just a try… Great post btw…thanks
It didn’t completely fix it for me, but it’s WAY better than it was before.
